Slipping Away

My wife, Joanne, was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's in 2007, at age 52. We lived a fairly normal life for the next few years until her condition worsened in 2015. I took on the role of her primary caregiver for the next 5 years. For most of that time I didn't feel like photographing, but some days I picked up the camera to document her journey through this devastating disease.

I grappled with the profound feeling that the person most dear to me was slipping away and there was nothing I could do about it, except to keep her safe and show her my undying love in the little things we did together.

Joanne passed away in 2020.
